This 19th century tobacco figure of a Highlander in full Highland dress is carved from a single, solid piece of walnut showing him holding a pinch of snuff from a snuff mull. The plumed feather cockade to his bonnet is typical of the late Regency period. The lead weighted walnut backing would indicate that this piece was used to hold in place tobacco and other associated items – rather like a bookend. Scottish, circa 1835.
