Mid 18th Century quarter-cut oak bank of eight spice drawers, of dovetail construction. Spices and herbs were a very important part of English cuisine and medicine, as well as a means of preserving food. So valued were they that furniture was specifically designed to house and secure them, often under lock and key. English, circa 1740.
