“Make an Offer” – Sailor-Work Ship Diarama
Available this week we have a lovely Sailor-work ship diarama. I have always liked these pieces as they are directly related to our forebears and their way of life, and this one with it’s stylised cloud work is I think, particularly charming.
An English sailor work diarama of a three masted ship following a pilot cutter in to port. These sorts of folk-art diaramas were often made by the sailors themselves as a momento of the ships they had sailed on. This one is in its original frame and box and has the original paint. English, circa 1850.
