A late 18th century naïve painting of a redcoat soldier on horseback, firing a musket – a difficult thing to do at full canter! From the mid 17th century to the 19th century, the uniform of most British soldiers included a madder red coat. Oil on card, now mounted on wood. English, circa 1785.
