A wonderful primitive carved Celtic head in oak or chestnut with a superb burnished patina. These round or oval heads date back to pre-Christian times and persisted in the Celtic fringe up until the early 19th century. There are similar heads carved on the stone fireplaces in the Mains of Dalvey, Strathspey. Highland Scottish, circa 1690.
