A portrait of a magnificent ram with two ewes set in a Lake District landscape. We believe the breed to be Herdwick which are the most hardy of all Britain’s breeds of hill sheep and have been recorded in documents relating to the Lake District Fells going back to the 12th century. Oil on oak board in a period frame with the original paint. English,circa 1820.
