Details
A scroll back side chair in beech with fruitwood spindles and an elm seat. This type of chair was made in and around High Wycombe by Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire chair makers, ultimately becoming known as Oxford chairs because many of the colleges used them. This is a more sophisticated example with its spindles and arches. Good rich colour. English, circa 1840.
