A magnificent large carving of a recumbent lion with a flowing mane and outsized paws, one of which is resting on an orb to signify sovereignty over the world. He has a strong face and a sturdy body. This wonderful bold naïve sculpture is believed to have come from a convent in Montelimar. French, circa 1810.
