A very unusual late 18th century mercury plated mirror beautifully framed with slightly cushioned gros point 18th century needlework. The needlework is wonderfully coloured ranging from terracotta to blue, and has a foliate design with interlocking leaves worked in wool and silk. A metal thread braid edging combines the two. The back is made of shallow chamfered and beautifully aged wood, which gives it a very weightless appearance. English, circa 1790.
