An amusing magic lantern slide of a hare in a jug which is inscribed ‘Jugged Hare’. Initially you don’t see the hare but then, by pushing the glass screen an inch or two, you see it. Today you just hang these lanterns in the window as an amusing piece of stained glass, but they used to be projected on to a wall using an oil lantern and lens and were really the precursor of the movie business. Painted glass in a mahogany frame. English, circa 1880.
