A naive pair of a chestnut stallion and a bay mare in their stables, one with a terrier friend. They both have the most lovely hayracks which add a simple symmetry to the paintings. Their water buckets are marked JSL, presumably the initials of the owner. They are in faux tortoiseshell frames and are signed R Whitford and dated 1886. Oil on canvas. English, 1886.
