This beautiful Chinese bow front lacquer corner cupboard  unusually  has European figures and Western emblems, such as the putti at the top. The central figures are European ladies taking tea at a William and Mary tripod table with blue and white china tea service, while the other Europeans are dancing and listening to music being played by Western musicians. It also features birds of paradise all set below a stylised Chinese landscape. Interspersed are Chinese servants. This piece was probably commissioned for Dutch colonials, either in the tea and or china trade and the piece itself is Dutch, whilst the lacquer decoration is Chinese.

Dutch/Chinese, circa 1700.
